So, Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, states the obvious truth, in equating our treatment of prisioners at Guantanamo to the acts of Nazi's an Commies, yet needs to apologize for it.
In a June 14 speech on the Senate floor, Senator Durbin read from an FBI agent's account of prisoner condition at Guantanamo Bay. The Agent described prisonsers being shackled to the floor without food or water in extreme temperatures for up to 24 hours at a stretch.
Prisoners in those conditions sometimes urinated or defecated on themselves, the agent reported.
"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings," Senator Durbin stated.
The Bush administration continues to claim that prisoners are being treated in accord with the Geneva Conventions. I guess the agent must be lying?
I don't know what is more disturbing, that the Administration continues to claim what is obviously not true, or that Senator Durbin caved in to pressure and apologized for telling the truth.
